Howdy there, Scream Freaks! If you haven’t heard yet, we got a brand spankin’ new episode up for ya! Yessir, the B-movie war wages on, and after visitin’ Full Moon’s base last time, we now get a look at how the other side lives in a hectic town where gangs run rampant, mutants unleash mayhem, and outbreaks of angry Native American chicken ghosts are always a concern!
This is an important episode, because we’re at the halfway point of the season now with only 5 episodes left, and things are only gonna get crazier from here on out! We spent these first few episodes gettin’ to know the key players while reviewin’ some of the more obscure titles everyone may not have seen, and we know some of you, especially the Full Moon fans, are gettin’ antsy. You’re beggin’ to see more of your favorite characters jump out of the backgrounds and play a bigger part in the war. You’re demandin’ to know why we wasted other favorites as war casualties. You’re confused as to who’s winnin’ and how we’re keepin’ score. Some of you are even questionin’ why you haven’t seen some of the more obvious characters animated yet like Toulon’s puppets from Puppet Master!
Because we think you Scream Freaks deserve some answers after all the support you’ve given us, here’s what’s what. This war offers a big spotlight for many characters, but not everyone can fit in it, includin’ the regular Screaming Soup! cast. That’s why we’re packin’ as many characters from your favorite movies into the backgrounds as possible, with full blown animation reserved for those we think serve the story best for laughs or developin’ this season’s story arc. We also want to stick with writtin’ about characters we’re more familiar with to reduce chances of pissin’ off fans who think their favorite heroes and villains are given shit treatment. A prime example of this is Jack Deth from Trancers and Radu from Subspecies. We’ve known about these movies for along time but didn’t have the opportunity to watch them until well after the season was written thanks to Full Moon Streaming.
Another big decidin’ factor for what characters get featured are the movies we want to review and think you should know about. This gets a little confusin’, however, because some movies we originally wrote episodes around had to be switched out upon request. Episodes 33 and 35 were supposed to review Rawhead Rex and Prison which is why those characters are so prominent, but due to marketing reasons, Full Moon asked us to review other films like Blood Dolls and Doctor Mordrid instead which is fine by us and required minimal tweaks to the finished animation. And spoiler alert, we won’t be doin’ any reviews for Gingerdead Man or Evil Bong this season. We want to provide reviews of complete up to date series and Full Moon’s still crankin’ out sequels for those two in a hurry! And both series crossover with each other more than once, makin’ us feel like we have to review both at the same time which would leave even less room for other flicks we want to talk about this season. Now, you’ll still get to see them animated in the show, because they’re too good of characters to not include, and you’ll even get some foreshadowin’ of the trouble Gingerdead Man will be bringin’ to the war in this latest episode!
As far as the scorin’ goes and who’s winnin’ the war . . . we ain’t keepin’ track of all that. Makes us sound like a bunch of assholes, but we thought the thunderdome fightin’ would get old real quick and preferred focusin’ on more of these story buildin’ sideline battles like the basement mud wrestlin’ and Full Moon’s base bein’ infiltrated by spies. We originally intended for the ratin’ of the opponents’ flicks to determine who’d win the matches, but somethin’ about that didn’t feel like it would keep y’all on your toes enough. We think the more unpredictable the outcomes the better, makin’ the episodes more interestin’ to watch.
And as for Toulon’s puppets . . . they’re around and will get plenty of time on screen before this is all over!
Just a reminder, we once again had our “Spot the Dollman Contest” with Scream Freaks on the lookout for Full Moon’s Dollman, a 13 inch cop with an attitude, within the animation of this episode. We know this is last minute, but we had to play a little catch up with our schedule after everythin’ that’s been happenin’, and finally got some details for an appearance we previously committed to in North Carolina on Saturday 6/3/17. It’s called ConCarolina, and is a 3 day event with parties, gamin’, film festivals, dealer rooms, and an ass load of panels coverin’ a broad number of interests from popular shows to how they’re gonna put a man on mars. Can you guys which part we’re involved with?
Like it or not, we’re only makin’ the rounds for joinin’ discussions on a handful of guest panels we felt were within our wheelhouse. Accordin’ to the SCHEDULE, we’ll be shootin’ the shit on the best and worst horror tropes in “From Zombies to Dolls to House to Clowns” (1pm-2pm), Stranger Things and how retro horror is shaping television and movies in “Stranger Things and the Resurgence of Retro” (7:30pm-8:30pm), and sharin’ our picks for the best zombie flicks in “Dead, But Not Buried: Zombie Films Worth Watching” (11pm-12am). Pretty wide open subjects we’re sure will allow us to bring up every shitty sci-fi/horror flick we’ve had the displeasure of watchin’ like Oversexed Rugsuckers From Mars!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Not too much to report this week other than we are busy, busy, busy. So busy, we’ve been slack with our tweets and Facebook posts which we need to jump back on today. Why are we so busy, you ask? Well, we still got all hands on deck for wrappin’ up this epic crossover season y’all have been enjoyin’, and double timin’ it for other things we got in the works.
Outside the first ever war between your favorite indie film houses, we’re also in the middle of preppin’ Screaming Soup! Season 5 and squarin’ away time for makin’ more of our secondary vids. Before the season’s over, we’re planning to put out some new Re-Animated Reviews and Graphic Violence vids focusin’ on toons and comics related to Troma and Full Moon characters like Toxic Avenger, Puppet Master, and even the Re-Animator who’s been poppin’ up in more and more funny books lately. We also got some Weird Al-like song spoofs we’ve been dickin’ around with for a while and finally ready to do somethin’ about it before the end of the year.
And for you loyal followers of our snack size reviews in our R-Rated Review blog, we’re still watchin’ an assload of flicks and sharin’ our two cents on them as soon as we see ’em. A lot of these viewin’s are thanks to ultra Scream Freak Brandon Riggs for keepin’ us in the loop with YouTube uploads, and others are movies we’ve had on the backburner in our own collection, but never bothered to watch ’til now. Currently, we’re kickin’ our feet up to a double marathon we’re goin’ back and forth between with Full Moon’s Subspecies series and the Children of the Corn flicks. Some of these reviews are up now with more on the way.
So, that’s pretty much it. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Lots goin’ on around our parts, so let’s jump into it!
First off, tons of thanks go out to you Scream Freaks who’re still out there fightin’ for our show to play freely without any censorship from Troma. More of you have told us about you contactin’ them, and we’re humbled each and every update. While there hasn’t been any change in their bafflin’ decision to shut down non-profit parody reviews celebratin’ their movies, we have been in touch with some of their past filmmakers by chance! We informed B.C. Butcher director Kansas Bowling of her characters bein’ animated but censored after she liked a fan’s tweet suggestin’ we review her flick, and the director of Attack of the Tromaggot reached out to us in response to reviewin’ his film in Screaming Soup! episode 31, Attack of the Tromaggot vs Shrunken Heads. That was a big shock, and we got to explain to him why his movie monster’s break into animation had to be censored. The latest appeal to Troma we’ve been made aware of comes from loyal Scream Freak Paladin Demo, and he’s allowin’ us to share his words below. Thank ya kindly!
In other news, we’re currently workin’ with the musical talent of Brian Barnes aka Grim Reaper from Your Final Answer to produce original stock music for Screaming Soup! which is a lot of fun. If you haven’t heard yet, Brian’s retired the monkey and banana skits to try his hand at a new show called Mondopiece Theatre reviewin’ some really obscure flicks you might have never heard of or care to watch. He just released his 4th episode this week reviewin’ some Mexican biker gang flick, so check it out.
And speakin’ of workin’ with such great talent, we’re doubly excited to be joined by Lost Story Studios, a creative gang of guys behind some of Full Moon’s latest mayhem like the Gingerdead Man comics and Full Moon’s latest feature, Evil Bong 666. After meetin’ on the convention circuit, they overheard us bitchin’ about needin’ a better Gingerdead Man voice for upcomin’ episodes, and they offered to step up to the mike and spit some Busey inspired lines for starvin’ art. Crazy brave fellas who are sure to elevate the quality of the show!
We also want to give another shout out to the winner of this past “Spot the Dollman Contest,” James Lohmann from Markham, IL. After so many complaints the Dollman was too easy to find in previous episodes, we made this round especially challengin’, and he rose to the occasion. Those are some good eyes, James! You couldn’t have won a Full Moon DVD and original Screaming Soup! art without them.

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! As promised, we’re seein’ this fantasy fight through, censors be damned, and present the next epic chapter in this alien freak throwdown in the sky! Tensions continue to rise as toxic mutants continue testin’ Full Moon’s tolerance for their fragile truce, and it wouldn’t take much to tip everything back into full scale war with Deadwest and the gang caught in the middle! And if that weren’t enough trouble, just what the hell is Full Moon secretly workin’ on and who will pay the price?
As you can see, the Troma censorship continues to be a problem with them still not willin’ to “participate,” but don’t let that stop you from lettin’ your voice be heard. Some of you have made more videos requestin’ Troma allow us to play these non profit parody reviews uncensored, and some have even gone above and beyond, approachin’ them at conventions to vent about it. We were hesitant to post any contact info we had for Troma before, because we didn’t know how exclusive they were and didn’t want the headache of bein’ told we released any sensitive information, but we did find some publically posted emails on their official site you can reach them at. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! New week, same bullshit ’round here. We still got our nose to the digital grindstone, pluggin’ away at our most ambitious season yet that’s guaranteed to be the best free entertainment we can offer. We’re up to our eyeballs animatin’ zombie chicken armies, giant rock ’em sock ’em robots, bar brawls, puppet shows . . . but you’ll see all that soon enough.
With all this extra animation and multitude of reviews we committed ourselves to, it’s important to get away from time to time and chillax with a fun flick we ain’t scrutinizin’ for a review. Luckily, we were reminded of one such film scheduled at select theaters tonight, hosted live by RiffTrax, the latest incarnation of the last Mystery Science Theater 3000 gang. If you haven’t been to one of these events before, you’re really missin’ out ’cause they’re hilarious and a truly new experience at the movie theater. The RiffTrax fellas basically riff a movie in front of a live audience at some venue, and that live event is simultaneously broadcast to select theaters across the country for others to enjoy. Some of the best ones we attended were the original House on Haunted Hill and Sharknado, but putrid polecats, not even RiffTrax can save the watchability of bombs like Birdemic and The Room! Tonight shows some promise though, ’cause RiffTrax will be reviewin’ a flick we’ve heard about for a long time but never seen . . . Samurai Cop. With the mention of RiffTrax and their ties to MST3K, it only feels natural to briefly mention our excitement for the new MST3K comin’ to Netflix. We were never on the MST3K train with both feet like so many others in the past, but we certainly enjoyed plenty of their movie riffs durin’ the Sci-Fi Channel’s hay day whenever the cheese flick was tolerable enough. Thanks to the arrival of the new MST3K, it’s been easier than ever for folk like us to catch up on everythin’ MST3K with several magazines and TV channels pluggin’ the original series with nostalgic articles and reruns. Our favorite horror rag Horrorhound intereviewed the newest host and published a thorough article on the show’s history in their latest issue. Cable channels like Comet and Shout! Factory’s Roku channel have helped the show find new audiences with reruns and on demand streams of their original episodes. So, needless to say, we’ve been checkin’ a lot of this out lately and happily reminded why MST3K was such a big influence on our own show.
Before we wrap up, we wanna give a big thanks to all you Scream Freaks who participated in Mandy’s Easter Challenge last week. And a big congratulations goes out to the winner, Sarah Day (Durhman, NC), for tellin’ us the scariest thing about the Easter Bunny is he judges your stupid man suit! Howdy there, Scream Freaks! It ain’t quite here yet, but Easter’s hoppin’ up on us, and our favorite ghostly girlfriend Mandy’s got some prizes to give away. What is it with holiday characters anyway? Why is part of their celebrated charm breakin’ into your home and doin’ stuff when you’re sleepin’? Santa expects milk and cookies, Tooth Fairy steals your teeth, leprechauns wreck your shit, ghosts and goblins want candy, and the Easter Bunny either leaves you a basket of chocolate or 2nd Christmas goodies dependin’ on how rich your parents are. It’s no wonder these fantasy creatures are so easily imagined as horror villains, ’cause it ain’t that big a stretch for the imagination to think of these invasive boogey men as Medusa monsters you’re not suppose to see creepin’ around you.
Anyway, if you haven’t seen Easter Sunday yet, it’s a cheap holiday horror that definitely belongs with other like-minded classics like Thankskilling. A bunny mask wearin’ psycho’s Easter massacre is stopped by Sheriff Z’Dar, but it’s rabbit season all over again when some yahoos accidentally resurrect the slasher’s soul years later for some Easter fun. Mandy’s plannin’ a full review for this one later on, so all we’ll say for now is if you like grindhouse inspired flicks, chatty slashers, and gory eye gags, then this is right up your alley!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! The verdict’s in and it sounds like y’all are enjoyin’ this epic 4th season sure enough, but there’s been some confusion and questions surroundin’ the storyline. Aside from the controversy over whether or not the booger from the closet officially won his fight with Rawhead Rex this past episode, some of you have been hittin’ us up askin’ why certain characters are included in Full Moon’s army of super freaks. More specifically, our horror fanfare’s been challenged with Scream Freaks tellin’ us characters from movies like Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Rawhead Rex have no place on Full Moon’s dance card for this war. Well, sit down before ya’ fall down, Scream Freaks, and learn somethin’!
When we here at Screaming Soup! think Full Moon, we think of its head honcho, Charles Band. Charlie’s been in showbiz for a long time and is partly responsible for an assload of horror and sci-fi films fans have no problem recognizin’. His first notable company that pumped out a lot of popular flicks was Empire Pictures which produced and/or distributed films like Re-Animator, From Beyond, Rawhead Rex, and too many others to name. After a few years, Charlie relocated his base of operations and transitioned to bein’ Full Moon as part of that move. So, since we identify Full Moon as Charlie and Charlie was Empire, then Full Moon = Empire for us. This is why the Jeffrey Combs characters refer to Charlie as Emperor Band as an acknowledgment of their ties to Empire Pictures. Plus, for entertainment purposes, this parody war is 10x more fun addin’ all those Empire characters with Full Moon’s current stars like Gingerdead Man and Killjoy. And if you need more proof, Scream Freak, just refer to the book Empire of the ‘B’s: The Mad Movie World of Charles Band by Dave Jay. Herbert West, Rawhead Rex, and From Beyond are even on the cover with Charlie!
Now that we got that off our chest, we got a few shout outs this week. First, we wanna congratulate a couple of Scream Freaks. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! With all the drama happenin’ lately, we wanted to focus on somethin’ more positive and give a shout out to one entity that’s been nothing but good to us this season. After purchasin’ our first Roku device, we feverishly explored this new gateway to random entertainment, huntin’ for everythin’ bizarre and obscure. Much to our surprise, we found more than a handful of Roku channels that allowed us to finally watch longtime bucket list titles like the raunchy Ilsa movies, The Slime People, and Beware! The Blob. Most channels are free with periodic commercials, but we stumbled across one particular channel that quickly hooked us.
Beta Max TV is similar to other channels with a catalog of free on demand B movies and a streamin’ service but also offers horror hosts shows to viewers. That’s right. Harkin’ back to the UHF days when horror hosts were more commonly seen on the boob tube as opposed to YouTube, horror fans can capture some of that TV magic on their idiot box while gettin’ a glimpse at horror hosts of the 21st century. The more consistently updated shows on Beta Max TV are The Midnight Movie with Dave and Ritch, Uncle Pete’s Dark Vault of Public Domain, and Lord Blood-Rah’s Nerve Wrackin’ Theatre. All of which follow the more traditional hostin’ formula with them book endin’ select movies with campy intros and outros.
Then there’s some new blood breakin’ into the scene like My Gal, the Zombie and the Mummy and the Monkey Show. My Gal, the Zombie kinda came out of nowhere for us but seems to be makin’ some waves out west with comic books, hot sauce, and 4 stars from horror host legend Joe Bob Briggs! Can’t help but be jealous of that last one! She hosts movies a little like Mystery Science Theater 3000 with regular commentary over the flick and typically includes music videos from independent bands. Mummy and the Monkey are a couple to keep your peepers on. These 2 are obvious fans of horror hosts and doin’ all they can to be part of its rich history in all the right ways. They’re hittin’ the conventions, workin’ the costumes, producin’ videos of them zippin’ around town and interviewin’ other hosts past and present . . . worth a watch. I only wish Zombie and M&M were postin’ their vids to Beta Max TV on a more regular basis. We could always go to their sites or YouTube channels to find more, but that kind of defeats the fun of seein’ them on this channel.
Curious to see how we could get in on the fun, we reached out to Beta’s head honchos through its website, and faster than you could say jumpin’ jack-o-lanterns, Screaming Soup! was happily accepted into the fold and is now rerunning past episodes every Saturday night at 9pm before the Cinema Snob of all people! We haven’t officially reached out to Snob yet, but have been regularly taggin’ him in our social media announcements before an episode airs. Our shows bein’ paired makes a lot of sense given we share the newer approach to hostin’ movies as reviewers, cuttin’ out all the bullshit in a movie to tell you fans what’s good or not and let you decide if it’s worth your time.
