Howdy there, Scream Freaks! If you wait long enough to catch the credits at the end of our shows, you’ll see names zippin’ by of some very talented voice actors. Most of them joined the show when we added a whole new roster of characters in Season 3, but with the epic war-torn story we’ve got for season 4, we had to reach out to even more talented folks gracious enough to lend their voices. While original characters are a cake walk to cast, it’s an entirely different beast findin’ folks who sound like a particular actor or character fans have expectations for. The hardest of these to cast were Jeffrey Combs’ Full Moon characters and the Toxic Avenger.
Luckily, after months of auditions, we finally found a couple of guys who could act and thankfully sound like these characters. Doug Powell plays all three of Jeffrey Combs’ alter egos (Dr. West, Dr. Tillinghast, and Dr. Mordrid), and Jason Underwood voices Toxie. It can be tricky impersonatin’ an actor playin’ multiple roles, but Doug pulled it off beautifully and far exceeded our hopes for capturin’ Combs deadpan theatrics we love so much. As for Jason, he was a natural for playin’ a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength.
As Troma fans know, there’s two ways to play Toxie. Boomin’ and heroic like in Toxic Avenger and Citizen Toxie or eagerly light-hearted like in Toxic Avenger 2-3 and the Toxic Crusaders cartoon series. It was a tough call for which approach to take with Toxie, but we grew up watchin’ the cartoon series and simply enjoy Ron Fazio’s performance as the monstrous hero in parts two and three the most. With that in mind, we thought Jason was a shoe in for voicin’ New Jersey’s first superhero. We knew Jason had a genuine knack for comedy after seein’ him perform improv with his group Alchemy Comedy, fellow filmmakers showed us he could act in their short films, and he’s tall. Why’s bein’ tall matter? We think it helps sell Toxie’s voice more if comin’ from someone close to Toxie’s size and build that can deliver lines with the same resonance.
Anyway, Jason has a weekly podcast he does with his friend Evan Harris called The Bearded Ones, and unbeknown to us, he’s been promotin’ Screaming Soup! and sharin’ behind the scenes exclusives on playin’ Troma’s cash cow from time to time. We had to call the big guy out on this, and immediately return the favor with a shout out on our weekly blog here. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! In case you haven’t heard, YouTube’s been upsettin’ a lot of channel creators the past year or so thanks to changes in its advertisin’ policies. Folks lucky enough to make some deniro runnin’ ads on their content suddenly found the well runnin’ dry after their videos were deemed unsuitable for advertisers’ vanilla comfort. One particular genre of channels that seems to be hit the hardest by this bad taste cleansin’ is horror.
We first heard about these purgin’ waves around a year ago on ComicBookGirl19’s video “Is this the end of the Comic Book Girl 19 Show? #YouTubeIsOver Explained.” In a nutshell, YouTube makes its money from the same ads its channels profit from when content creators choose to monetize their vids for a buck. Didn’t matter what the video was about – cats teachin’ bumblin’ babies life hacks for reviewin’ the sexual subtext in Pride & Prejudice and Zombies or backyard stunt dawgs spreadin’ hate propaganda to sexually abused blow-up dolls in a kiddie pool of peanut butter – the creators could check the box that allowed them to earn some pocket change off any random business’ openin’ commercial. Seems one such business caught their ad on one of the harsher videos and blew their shit thinkin’ everyone who clicks to skip their commercial are gonna think they support whatever sick content the viewers obviously came to enjoy. They threatened to break ties with YouTube (potentially startin’ a chain reaction of other nervous businesses jumpin’ ship), YouTube panicked, and now videos have to be squeaky clean to benefit from monetization which keeps the cash cows happy and YouTube’s banks full.
Accordin’ to the folks I’ve been watchin’, the unsuitable content YouTube’s lookin’ to cut off is pretty much anything violent, sexual, vulgar, and graphic . . . all the things we love about horror! A few of our friends in the horror community have felt the squeeze the last few months and have been none too happy about it. Blood Bath & Beyond was one of the last big ones we heard was hit, but recently the Horror Addicts got the bad news with several of their vids bein’ demonetized. They published a perfect reaction video to all this you can watch below and are rallyin’ fellow horror fans to #KeepYouTubeCreepy.
Just so you Scream Freaks out there know, this stuff with YouTube ain’t gonna hurt or stop Screaming Soup! YouTube’s not dumpin’ entire channels like they never existed, they’re just cuttin’ certain channels off from the revenue their vids generate. We haven’t been hit with this yet, but that might be because we didn’t monetize Season 4 as part of an agreement we made with Full Moon and Troma (in the beginnin’) since we’re workin’ with their characters this year. Screaming Soup! is a labor of love, and a means for us to celebrate everythin’ we love about horror with you Scream Freaks, connect with our heroes in the genre, be artists in every sense of the word, and make waves in the horror host community we’re hopin’ will one day catapult us alongside such heavy weights as Elvira and the Crypt Keeper.
Money is important, but it’s not what drives our show. It is a goal of ours to make Screaming Soup! successful enough to be a sustainable career, but our primary focus is creatin’ great shows that tell wild stories, share candid reviews, and makes you laugh above all else. We’re sure fame and fortune will come when it comes, but we ain’t gonna let it steer our creativity.

Believe it or not, this is a series we’ve been wantin’ to review the most since startin’ Screaming Soup! Watchin’ so many horror hosts and YouTube reviewers over the years, we’ve seen different ones touch upon a few of the more popular Puppet Master flicks but never dig in with a fully comprehensive look at the entire series. That’s why we’re crankin’ things from 10 to 11 with a two-part ULTRA review that’ll chew the fat on EVERY Puppet Master flick made, includin’ (fangs crossed) Puppet Master Axis Termination! We’ll try for Puppet Master: Littlest Reich as well, but that’ll be tougher to get our hands on in time since another film company is makin’ it.

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Another week, another marathon keepin’ the wheels rollin’ on our most epic season yet! We announced the arrival of Toulon’s teenie tiny assassins from the Puppet Master series for our next ultra review, and as excited as everyone’s been about that, some of you have been askin’ about our other vids that take a look at horror related comics and toons. Rest assured, this current season’s been a lot of work (3 years in the makin’!), but we’re doin’ our best to knock out some more Graphic Violence and Re-Animated Reviews before it’s all over!
We have all the comics and cartoons for different Troma and Full Moon properties and written reviews for each, but gettin’ to the video stage has been delayed a lot more than expected. We are plannin’ to review comics related one way or another to Herbet West from Re-Animator, we’ve got a complete review of every Puppet Master comic series to date with notes on how they work into the continuity of the Full Moon movies, and we collected every obscure Toxic Avenger related comic to review along with the Toxic Crusaders cartoon. So, it’s all in the works, and we’re gettin’ to it as fast as we can without sacrificin’ the quality of the regular animated episodes.
And with Halloween drawin’ closer, we’re addin’ more fun times to our schedule with different cameos and appearance comin’ up in the next couple of months. We already announced we’ll be doing a crossover video with our friends The Horror Addicts premierin’ in October, but we also have a crossover in the works for next season with Kaci the Homicidal Homemaker. We’re also brainstormin’ some horror related topics for panel discussions to attend at this years’ Big Fandom Greenville, and have an improv group invitin’ us to be special guests at one of their shows where they’ll perform improv inspired by clips from our show they’ll be playin’ on (duh duh DUH!) Friday the 13th this Halloween. That’s an event we’ll be sure to share with y’all!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! New month, and the epic conclusion to the greatest battle to never happen draws closer with only 3 episodes left. Last episode left off with the tease for the final showdown between Troma and Full Moon, and we’re sure you’ve been rackin’ your brains figurin’ out which B-movie beasts will be tearin’ each other apart. Well . . . some of you have already figured it out, but we’ll clue the rest of you in.
As teased and promised for a while now, Full Moon’s Puppet Master gang will finally be makin’ their debut in this war to end all indie cinema. We’ll explain where they and the rest of Full Moon’s dolls have been this whole time, reveal Troma’s toxic picks for fightin’ them, and review the first six Puppet Master flicks in our first ever Ultra Edition of Screaming Soup! Yup, for those keepin’ track, Super Screaming Soup! is three reviews, Mega Screaming Soup! is four to five, and Ultra is six or more. And in the Puppet Master series’ case, it’s A LOT more with the rest of the series (includin’ Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys and hopefully the newest one(s)) scheduled for a review 9/20/17. That should certainly make up for their absence, huh?
In other news, we’ve just been contacted by Beta Max TV, and the Roku channel we were proud to call home for a few months is currently in the works for returnin’ to the airwaves! They originally tanked because of some messy technical difficulties, but Beta Max TV has climbed back in the saddle and plans on a revival of sorts with Beta Max TV 2.0. We’re first to jump in line and get our show back into the channel’s line-up and will hopefully be joined by our ol’ Beta Max buddies like Cinema Snob and The Mummy and the Monkey.

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! As many of you know, it’s Shark Week, and several horror host/YouTube reviewers are blowin’ their channels out with everything shark related right now. We want to do somethin’ in that same vein with a series of shark movie reviews we’ve been itchin’ to do since we started our show, but our hard pressed animation schedule usually prevents it from happenin’. Despite this hindrance, however, we still want to share with you the horrific shark movies we enjoy watchin’, excludin’ the big kahuna blockbusters like the Jaws and Sharknado series. These ain’t full reviews or even R-Rated Reviews, but just a heads up for killer fish flicks to watch out for if you’re lookin’ for things that step up the genre.
SHARKMAN aka HAMMERHEAD (2005)
William Forsythe’s gotta sink Jeffrey Combs’ mad science experiments for curin’ cancer, because they involve poor women bein’ mated with a mutant shark man who keeps eatin’ them! Fun movie with a great Street Sharks kinda monster stalkin’ people in the water and on land. We have plans for animating a review of this flick in the future. 4/5!
PETER BENCHLEY’S CREATURE (1998)
The U.S. Government creates a feral Stan Winston shark man for winning the Vietnam war but scraps the gene splicing project as soon as he goes on a frenzy. Decades later, the beast with teeth is accidentally freed and treats himself to some Caribbean islanders unless marine biologist Craig T. Nelson and his family can stop him! 3/5!
GHOST SHARK (2013)
The tide carries a shark’s bloated corpse into a magical cave that manifests its spirit into free flyin’ ecto-terror with teeth! With water as its conduit, no one’s safe as you watch this lost Ghostbusters goober tear into folks from bubble baths to lawn sprinklers with Richard Moll playin’ its Ahab. 4/5!
SHARKTOPUS (2010)
Roger Corman brings us a freaky hybrid of a shark crossed with an octopus that gobbles you up at sea or on the beach! It’s military science gone horribly wrong with Eric Roberts racin’ to the rescue! 4/5!
SAND SHARKS (2011)
If Tremors was less creative with its Jaws inspired graboids, then you’d have Sand Sharks. Sharks are literally swimmin’ through sand and threatenin’ a beach’s livelihood unless a professional partyer and Dr. Brooke Hogan can blow it up. Sounds like a silly movie, but fun characters and nice production value. 4/5!
And that’s pretty much it, Scream Freaks! The shark movies that instantly send us into a happy frenzy whenever they’re on TV, and we’d highly recommend each of these for a DVD purchase if you’re lookin’ to add some wild new stuff to your horror collection. We hope to have more shark movies to share in the near future, but these should be enough to hold you over for now.

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! School’s out for summer, and we’re blowin’ it to pieces with hard hittin’ radioactive reviews of Troma’s Class of Nuke ‘Em High series. Yessir, we commit to givin’ ya hard lessons in readin’, writin’, and radiation, and show you why this is the only other Troma series aside from Toxic Avenger that’s worth makin’ sequels out of. Classes include the original cult hit that captures one of cinema’s most memorable gangs, Brick Bronsky’s two movie demo reel about subhumanoids, and the soft gender swappin’ reboot/sequel that came out a few short years ago. We would liked to have seen the newest Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High flick and help generate some buzz with a review for it, but it’s not available for purchase yet. We could have asked for an early-bird promotional copy, but certain you-know-who’s ain’t exactly been cooperative this season.
As far as the story goes, this final half of a 2-part special picks right back up with us defendin’ the Howl-Inn Grub & Spirits from a hell raisin’ gang who’s busy sickin’ a big ass mutant against a Robot Jox mech driven by Full Moon’s Killjoy. Lots of deaths, several horror Easter eggs, plenty of action, bookoos of monsters, we see the return of Brainbasher from Season 3 . . . we just continue raisin’ the stakes for the war this episode and keep blowin’ the animation out to accommodate it all.
As is the tradition this season, we did have another “Spot the Dollman Contest” this episode, and the lucky winner to find the 13″ cop with an attitude is Sean Garver from Batesville, Arkansas. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! We’ve got quite a treat planned for you this week as the dark cosmos aligns and brings together 3 of horror entertainment’s favorite gals. Streamin’ LIVE this Saturday night (7/15/17) at 8pm PST on the Horror Addicts’ YouTube channel (click HERE to book mark it), hostess Gory B. Movie invites the Homicidal Homemaker and our very own ghost girlfriend Mandy to cook up trouble and discuss our shows while drinkin’ some deadly concoctions.
For those unfamiliar with these gore gore girls, Horror Addicts is a family themed show created by Gory and her husband Danny Knightmare. No strangers to the horror community, they network with a lot of today’s online talents, includin’ yours truly with a guest appearance in our episode Deadwest Screams at Frankenhooker! and even guest hosted a review on Bloodbath & Beyond’s YouTube channel. Their vids normally range from movie reviews to unboxin’s, and of course, Ghouls’ Night Out which features an impressive roster of women who know their Frankensteins from their Frankenstein’s monsters. With past guests on Ghouls’ Night Out includin’ Spooky Astronaut, Lady Hellbat of The Batcave, and Horrorgal, we’re proud to be counted among such frightful fun.
Sharin’ the night with Mandy will be Kaci Hansen, another horror hostess better known as the Homicidal Homemaker. But rather than review trashy movies, she serves up appetizin’ dishes inspired by them in a horror themed cookin’ show! Whether it’s Halloween or a poltergeist party, the Homicidal Homemaker offers several easy to follow recipes that make for some screamin’ displays of culinary goodness. She’ll teach you to mix a Twin Peaks cocktail, make bloody custard ears from Dead Alive, or whip up some macaroni brain salad to satisfy your horrendous hunger. Even if your not a cook lookin’ for new ideas in the kitchen, Homemaker kicks up her show’s entertainment value with impressive parody skits (our favorite is the pool party) along with additional unboxin’ vids and food reviews. You can check out her YouTube channel HERE. Rumor has it the girls are askin’ Homemaker to think up some new poison for them to drink Saturday night, and it’s sure to be sinfully sweet.
As for our favorite ghostly girlfriend, Mandy will be takin’ a break from the disastrous war that’s been upsettin’ things around here and kickin’ back at the Howl-Inn for this shin-dig. She’ll be talkin’ about Screaming Soup! teamin’ up with Full Moon, tease at things to come in our next episode on 7/20/17, and may even share a picture that helps you freaks see who’s fillin’ that dress! Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Woo-doggy, we’ve had some fireworks ‘roud here, and it’s far from over as the epic battle between your favorite independent film companies continues. T####’s pissed at Screaming Soup!, Full Moon’s up to some secret means of escapin’ the Crosslands, and all hell’s breakin’ loose as Gingerdead Man instigates a bar brawl between Killjoy and some Cretins that can tip the delicate truce back into full scale war! Things have been so hectic, we didn’t even have time to touch base with you folks last week!
To catch you up on what’s been goin’ on lately, we still have a lot of irons in the fire as this season draws closer to bein’ wrapped up. We’re poised for our 5th apocalyptic season we’re excited to get started on, preppin’ Season 6 well in advance, and doin’ our best to catch up the secondary vids we promised like Graphic Violence and Re-Animated Reviews. We want to review the Toxic Crusaders cartoon and tell y’all about all the comics based on Toxie, Puppet Master, and Re-Animator. The scripts have been written, and the comics have been scanned for those, but we’re in the thick of editin’ the last 20 reviews together which is gonna have to delay those a little longer. With a big honcho like Full Moon involved this season, you’ll understand why we’re puttin’ all our energy into these episodes for the time bein’!
We’re also busy spreadin’ the word about our show to help grow our fanbase. We’re reachin’ out to other streamin’ services needin’ programs, applyin’ for panel discussions at Big Fandom again, and contactin’ popular horror publications that might want to write an article about the world’s first fully animated horror host show. In addition, we’re plannin’ certain crossovers that won’t interrupt our production schedule and have a couple lined up with the Horror Addicts. As of now, our favorite ghost girlfriend Mandy is supposed to make a guest appearance on B. Gory’s “Ghoul’s Night Out” livestream this month, and Deadwest and Billy will be in a crossover review with Danny Knightmare talkin’ ’bout Full Moon’s Goobers sometime in October. Promises to be fun, and we’ll keep you up to date on those as they happen. And we’re excited to announce we’ll be featurin’ Pretty Weird Art’s Death Elf and Woose in some episodes next season. We interviewed the creators behind this cool independent comic a couple years back in our Graphic Headstone blog and are thrilled to have the chance to bring their creations to life like we did with Michael Gordon’s Tiki Zombie in our Pinata Survivor Island review!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks and welcome to the next excitin’ battle royal between Full Moon and those other guys we’re not supposed to name! As we punch and kick into the last half of this interdimensional brawl between two mighty B-movie behemoths, you may have noticed the rules are changin’ somewhat. But not to worry, we’re here to explain!
We here at Screaming Soup! consider ourselves completionists. When we watch or talk about a series, we wanna go over all of it! Take our Season 2 finale for example, when we reviewed Slumber Party Massacre 1-3 and its loose sequels Cheerleader Massacre 1-2. This compulsion of ours is one big reason why Full Moon fans haven’t been seein’ certain reviews or appearances of their favorite Full Moon characters.
The purpose of Season 4’s first half was to make you Full Moon and Troma fans aware of stand alone flicks that may have flown under your radar, helpin’ clue you in to other monsters worth watchin’ outside the bigger titles like Toxic Avenger and Puppet Master. But we ain’t stupid, and know y’all wanna watch the big dogs throwdown, so this last half turns the spotlight over to them. Problem is, however, these movie monsters have more than one flick and remember what we said about us bein’ completionists?
So, we’re lookin’ at the remainin’ 5 episodes of the season and want to review complete series from each studio that’s anywhere from 4-10 movies each series. The most reviews we can reasonably animate around are 5-6, and those episodes run over 30 minutes. So, if we were to review 2 complete series per episode for the last 5 episodes, we’d essentially be producin’ a season and a half worth of material by the end with half the episodes runnin’ over an hour long each. With this imposin’ workload threatenin’ to work us into the ground, upset the regular premier dates, and screw up our production schedule for Screaming Soup! Season 5, it’s just easier to break these last fights down into parts over 2-3 episodes with each episode dedicated to 1 whole series instead of 2. This limits how many more of your favorite characters we can pack in before the end, of course, but we promise you won’t be disappointed by our picks for these final rounds.
While it’s not blatantly displayed on the video cover, we think you can easily figure out this fight is Killjoy vs The Class of Nuke ‘Em High which will continue next episode with a review of that entire Troma series (minus the newly released Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 2 dependin’ on if we get a copy we can edit a review with). As sworn on a stack of Necronomicons before, Toulon’s puppets ain’t far behind and will get a very special in depth treatment that’ll make up for the wait when they arrive. Patience stressed one . . .
