SCREAMING AT GHOULIGANS CHRISTMAS!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Like most everyone else about now, we’ve been occupied with scratching the itch to see the Star wars sequel we’ve all been waiting for, and luckily, it didn’t disappoint! But when our attention’s not in a galaxy far far away, we’ve been solely focused on making sure this upcoming season of Screaming Soup! is gonna outshine the rest.

We’ll never forget when a good friend of ours was reviewing an episode for us halfway through the production of Season 2, and toward the end he started fastfowarding. “Why did you do that?” we asked. “Because I know what’s going to happen.” That was just the reality check we needed to realize the episodes were getting a little too patterned and predictable, and we needed to change up the show to keep the interests of you Scream Freaks. This evolution began with the Slime City review in episode 17, and slowly built up little by little for setting up the new format that’ll be seen in Season 3. What that means is you’ll be seeing more out of Deadwest and the gang with fully developed story arcs, high stakes action, and some new wild locations that expands the Crosslands beyond the Howl-Inn Grub and Spirits.

Luckily, we were smart enough to start a yearly schedule for producing a full season of Screaming Soup!, meaning we have 12 months to animate a season before its premier. So, while you’re watching Season 2, we’re working on Season 3. We typically like to wrap up production by Halloween so we can enjoy the holidays and just prep for the following season, but we have fallen behind some this year for a couple of reasons. One reason we’re just now working on the season finale for season 3 is because of those Bruce Campbell videos we made for Halloween, and then the Ghouligans enlisted our services for a Christmas music video. Yup, this gang of top notch horror entertainers were impressed enough with their cameo in the Season 2 finale, that they wanted more! It was interesting working on another show’s animation, but it was a lot of fun, and those guys are just a great lot to work with. So, if you haven’t seen that video yet, watch below, and because it’s G-rated, you can share it with your friends and family!

Enough rambling already! Be sure to catch up on Screaming Soup! Seasons 1-2 before the premier of Season 3 1/20/16, and help us get the word out about the web’s #1 animated horror host show! SCREAMING AT THE ORIGINAL EVIL DEAD ARTIST, TOM SULLIVAN!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Christmas is still a little ways off, but we want to give you fans an early gift this holiday season. We previously mentioned we were working on a very special artist spotlight for the Graphic Headstone blog, and that interview is now complete and approved by the artist himself for public consumption. For our final Graphic Headstone entry for 2015, we proudly present the original artist of the Evil Dead series since ground zero, Tom Sullivan!

For those who don’t know, Tom was the creative whirlwind behind the art, special effects, and stop-motion animation of the original Evil Dead film, and its short film predecessor, Within the Woods. He continued working on effects in Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, and has had varying levels of involvement with later incarnations of the Evil Dead series.

We first met Tom years ago when he caught us selling self-made copies of his Necronomicon book from Evil Dead 2 online. Amazed one of Evil Dead’s most legendary names was contacting us directly, we of course complied with his demands to cease and desist further infringement on his copyrighted work immediately. Flattered by our respect for his wishes and impeccable duplication of his book, Tom asked to do a trade. For a copy of our Necronomicon knock-off, he mailed us a packet slammed with art prints and copies of his short lived comic, Tom Sullivan’s Books of the Dead: Devilhead, and even invited us to meet him at an upcoming horror convention. Without hesitation, we drove like crazed fan boys and met this living legend in person. Tom is a very nice and easy guy to speak with. He showed us his collection of fan-made Necronomicons he showcases at conventions (ours included), let us hold and look through the ORIGINAL Necronomicon from the first film, and introduced us to all the filmmakers at the convention including Roy Frumkes who gave us a free signed DVD of Street Trash. It was a very memorable experience and is what helped jumpstart our career paths in horror entertainment.

So, whether you’re an Evil Dead fan or just a lover of horror and art, click HERE and read our interview with one of horror’s most memorable artists. You’ll read some Evil dead stories, what Tom’s been doing since Evil Dead, see a lot of really cool Cthulhu art, and learn about a recent documentary that was released about Tom which you can watch the trailer for below.

Enough Evil Dead rambling already! Be sure to catch up on Screaming Soup! Seasons 1-2 before the premier of Season 3 1/20/16, and help us get the word out about the web’s #1 animated horror host show! SCREAMING AT KRAMPUS!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! With enough sleep and shaman medicine, we’ve defeated the uncommon cold since you last heard from us and are ready to kick off the Krampus season! No, not Christmas – Krampus! That’s right, Michael Dougherty’s Krampus comes out this weekend, and that’s got us more pumped than any Star Wars movie! We remember the first time we heard of the Christmas boogeyman when he made his unforgettable appearance on Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. Christmas Special that had us asking, “What the fuck is that thing?” We’ve done plenty of reading up on this mythical creature since then, and quickly became fans of the original Bad Santa.

zxmas8zxmas7

For those who don’t know (or can’t use Wikipedia), the Krampus is a creature from German folklore that basically shadows Santa Clause Christmas night, punishing the naughty children while St. Nick rewards the good kids with presents. The punishment Krampus dishes out varies from culture to culture. Sometimes he’s swatting children with birch branches or leaving coal in their stockings, and other times he’s actually snatching kids from their homes to drown, eat, or whisk to hell. Quite the Grimm fairy tale isn’t he?

zxmas5zxmas9zxmas13

Somehow the legend of the Krampus was suppressed over the decades (maybe centuries?), and has only recently been making a comeback the last few years, finally blowing up pop culture this Christmas! There’s Krampus Christmas cards, sweaters, t-shirts, dolls, parades, statues, comics, TV appearances, and big budget movies! Yes, Krampus had a handful of humble low-budget breaks into film the last few years, but mainstream movie companies have finally seen the writing on the wall and realized Krampus was movie monster gold and now everyone’s clamoring for him! Even Kevin Smith announced he’ll be starting production on his own Krampus anthology film for next year.

zxmas3zxmas2zxmas4zxmas1

Now, before the movie industry blows up with Krampus fever, the list of his cinematic exploits is still fairly small and easily obtainable for horror fans wanting to collect them. There’s been Night of the Krampus from 2013 which we haven’t seen ourselves yet, and Krampus – The Christmas Devil from 2014 that was, holy shit, a movie bomb that may as well be coal in your stocking. The best thing about that movie was the cover which is really a promise waiting to blow-up in your face as soon as you push play. Then of course, you have the 3 newest entries this year, Krampus The Reckoning, A Christmas Horror Story, and Krampus. We’re not in a hurry to see Reckoning because of the cover but did see A Christmas Horror Story. This anthology was good but not the greatest horror movie in our opinion. We felt the stories lacked a lot of POW! for their endings, not all the creatures were exactly Christmas related, and the Krampus was underplayed and a little too superhero in appearance for our tastes. His segment was more or less an uneventful cat and mouse chase with him pursuing a family of jerks, but the filmmakers did introduce an interesting explanation for how Krampus is summoned which we liked. We’d give it like 3.5/5, and think it makes a great addition to any horror fan’s holiday fright collection.

zxmas12zxmas11zxmas16

Krampus is what we’re really looking forward to. From what we’ve seen in the trailers, this should be everything we could ask for; scares, effects, laughs, and (fingers crossed) story. Krampus, don’t fail us now! We’ll definetly be sharing our thoughts on the movie after the weekend. And if you haven’t heard already, there’s also a companion comic that was released in conjunction with the Krampus movie that I’d also recommend picking up.

SCREAMING AT THANKSGIVING 2015!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Of all the worst times to get sick, the holidays is one of them! Yup, we here at Screaming Soup! have been battling a cold that’s making the rounds, and it’s slowed us down a bit this week which is partly why we don’t have a Graphic Headstone interview to offer this blog. That’s not to say we don’t have at least one more interview in the works before going on a serious holiday hiatus, however. Let’s just say this last Aaah!rtist interview for 2015 will definitely kick some ash.

We have posted an all new Screaming Soup! Thanksgiving Eeeh!-Card! for you Scream Freaks to share this year if you need to shoot someone a unique holiday message, so be sure to check that out along with last year’s Eeeh!-Card and use the share options below the image when you go to its specific page. These Turducken terrors are sure to give someone a chuckle, and they’re 10x better than getting a child’s Tom Turkey hand-traced drawing!

In the meantime, we here at Screaming Soup! and Happy Everyday Co. wish all you Scream Freaks a Happy Thanksgiving and have been thankful for the support we’ve received from all of you. You’ve had some great and honest feedback, showed us you care about the characters and their 2 cents on cheesy cinema, and have only been fanning the creative fires for a bigger and better season next year. We love what we do, but it feels great to know others are benefiting from our fun as well. So be safe, wear gloves, be thankful, and beware the Turducken!

Other than that, be sure to catch up on Screaming Soup! Seasons 1-2 before the premier of Season 3 1/20/16, and help us get the word out about the web’s #1 animated horror host show! SCREAMING AT MARS ATTACKS ARTIST, JASON CROSBY!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Putrid polecats, is it almost Thanksgiving already?! Seems like Halloween was just yesterday, and it’s no wonder with the workload we’ve been under to prepare what promises to be a kick-ass season for Screaming Soup! next year. With our schedule so packed, we’re almost thinking we have no choice but to put the Graphic Headstone blog on the backburner . . . almost!

For now, we’re continuing to bring you fun and insightful interviews with some of today’s hottest talent bringing us the best in horror entertainment. This week, we present Jason Crosby, an out of this world artist who’s best know for his work on the more recent incarnations of Topps’ Mars Attacks trading cards! This was a lot of fun for us, because we LOVE trading cards. Yessir, from Rocky 3 to Dinosaurs Attack, we’ve collected our fair share of trading cards that span movies, TV, and comics. We hope to make our own Screaming Soup! trading cards one day, and maybe ole’ Jason will be our means of finally doing it. You think he’ll work for cheese sandwiches and a decent floor to sleep on?

So, without further yip yap from us, click HERE to read our interview with Jason Crosby and get a load of his official Topps Mars Attacks artwork, as well as work he’s done for cards sets of Star Wars, Marvel, and DC comics!

SCREAMING AT GOOSEBUMPS COVER ARTIST, TIM JACOBUS!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Boy howdy, are we halfway through November already?! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun . . . and working hard. Whew, the holidays was supposed to be a chance for us to catch a break before heading full force into Screaming Soup! Season 3 in Jan’16, but we may have overloaded ourselves!

We’ve taken on some outside jobs to help fund the show, trying to keep schedule with the final stretch of production for Season 3, eagerly prepping for Season 4 (premiering 2017), hoping to squeeze in a new Thanksgiving Eeeh!-Card, and racing to keep up the Graphic Headstone blog for your reading entertainment.

Speaking of the Graphic Headstone, we’ve got quite the treat for you this week! With the resurgence of the Goosebumps franchise due to the release of the movie starring Jack Black as Stephen King’s rival, R. L. Stine, we’ve been looking back at these unforgettable children’s books from the 90s. We almost forgot how big it had gotten with its TV shows, video games, toys, board games, clotheslines, school supplies, etc. And as wonderful as we remember the stories being, the imagery was what really stuck with us. A lot of this was owed to the original run of covers with their brightly colored, slime covered, depiction of spooks and monsters. The masterful painter behind these memorable images is New Jersey native, Tim Jacobus.

We had already picked up a copy of his autobiography for 10 yr olds, It Came From New Jersey: My Life As an Artist, a couple years back when we learned of its existence, so we were already familiar with the man behind the art. But with the movie release, we started seeing a lot of online interviews with Jacobus that motivated us to try our hand at contacted the man responsible for inspiring several of today’s horror artists. So, we found him on Facebook, asked for an interview, and to our pleasure he agreed and was more than amused to be interviewed by our show!

So, click HERE to read our interview with Tim Jacobus, the artist behind the Goosebumps covers, and check out his website TimJacobus.com that’s chock full of great art and helpful information about the art business!

SCREAMING AT INDY ARTISTS, ETHAN AND RACHEL MONGIN!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Wish we could say we’re taking it easy during the start of the holiday season, but being the web’s #1 animated horror host site keeps you pretty busy! In preparation for season 3, we’re compositing new backgrounds, drawing new characters, writing new reviews, making new contacts, etc., etc. And it’s all for you!

But we can’t keep reporting that same news every week, so we’re proud to bring back our answer to the hiatus between seasons, the Graphic Headstone! For those who don’t know, this is a blog used for spotlighting artists of all kinds we’ve been privileged enough to meet over the past year at conventions and over social media. We’re always seeking out artistic expressions that really speak to us on a creative level and think should be shared with a wider audience which we’re more than happy to help with. This week, we proudly add Ethan and Rachel Mongin from Pretty Weird Art to our list of Graphic Headstone interviews.

When we first met these two aaah!-rtists on the convention circuit, their art obviously pulled us in with its fun-inducing content and use of kinetically charged colors. Much to our pleasure, the maestros behind the work were just as wonderful to speak with. Ethan and Rachel understood their work and how to present it, knew how to interact with people, and made a lasting impression that gained them fans here at Screaming Soup! What also makes their story as independent artists on the rise unique is that they’re a husband and wife team who work on everything together from their comics to stand alone artwork which brings to mind such famous comic couples as Madman creator Mike Allred and his wife. Quite the inspiring team.

So, click HERE to read the interview, check out PrettyWeirdArt.blogspot.com that’s chock full of great art and characters that are sure to entertain, and find out what a Woose and a Skull Gun Bunny is!

SCREAMING AT THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE SERIES!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks and Happy Early Halloween w/ our season 2 finale! It’s been an amazing season this year, and we’re wrapping it up with a half hour Mega review of the classic Slumber Party Massacre series from Roger Corman! Mecha-bull riding, bobbing for grenades, hottie contest, pumpkin carving . . . we blow this party out like none other!

Everyone from seasons past are invited and even some new lovely faces make an appearance, but we’re most stoked about the special guests of the night, the Ghouligans! Despite their recent retirement from the horror entertainment business after 10 years, they were cool enough to dust off the fangs and capes to humble us with a cameo that’s like no other Ghouligans performance seen before (because its animated, duh). We’re happy to have connected with this stellar group and hope to work together again in the near future. Despite them closing up shop, you can still dig up their work for some howling entertainment at their website and/or Youtube channel!

Now, just because we won’t be back with more Screaming Soup! episodes until Jan’16, doesn’t mean this site will be abandoned till then. We’ll actually be spending the off season adding more cool interviews with hot artists to our Graphic Headstone blog and giving you more updates on what to expect in the upcoming season 3!

Other than that, keep checking back here every day for more “Bruce Campbell VS” and “Mandy’s I Can’t Believe They Have Pumpkin,” which will continue through Halloween, send someone special a Halloween Eeeh!-Card this holiday, see the latest screen shots added to the gallery from this episode, and be sure to catch up on all the latest Screaming Soup! episodes before starting Season 3 this coming January. Please use our social buttons in the upper right corner of the site and follow our tweets, subscribe to our Youtube channel, like our Facebook, watch and share all our vids, and keep that fan mail coming.

SCREAMING AT BRUCE CAMPBELL’S DEATH REEL AND THE GHOULIGANS!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks!

Wow! Halloween is almost here and there’s so much going on it’s nuts! First off, in response to our excitement over the all new Ash VS Evil Dead TV series premiering 10/31/15 on the Starz network, we’re still continuing our month long celebration of Bruce Campbell with daily “Bruce VS” vids in all their video game parody glory, a tribute video highlighting the King of B’s 30+ years in acting, and an all NEW Bruce Campbell Death Reel countdown with our favorite death being the one that made us laugh the hardest! We’re also continuing our 31 days of Pumpkin Spice hell with “Mandy’s I Can’t Believe They Have Pumpkin,” and drew up an all NEW Screaming Soup! Halloween Eeeh-Card! for this year!

Lot to take in, right? But there’s more! For those who didn’t read the blog last week, we’re having some special guests briefly bounce back from retirement to make a cameo in the Season 2 finale of Screaming Soup!, the Ghouligans! These guys have been rocking and howling the west coast for the last 10 years (Click HERE for their Youtube channel), but sadly hung up their capes and fangs just a few months ago. Luckily, the magic of animation can’t be denied and they were more than happy to attend our Halloween blowout! Extreme pumpkin carving, Halloween hottie contests, bobbing for grenades, mechanical devil bull riding, and all while reviewing the Slumber Party Massacre Series! It’s going to be a treat for all Scream Freaks and Ghouligan fans alike!

Other than that, keep checking back here every day for more “Bruce Campbell VS” and “Mandy’s I Can’t Believe They Have Pumpkin,” and be sure to catch up on all the latest Screaming Soup! episodes so far for season 2 before seeing the season finale 10/20/15 with special guests, the Ghouligans (www.theghouligans.com)! Please use our social buttons in the upper right corner of the site and follow our tweets, subscribe to our Youtube channel, like our Facebook, watch and share all our vids, and keep that fan mail coming.

SCREAMING AT BRUCE CAMPBELL WITH A TRIBUTE VIDEO!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! October been fun for ya yet? Seen Eli Roth’s Green Inferno or picked up the new Trick ‘r Treat comic? Or more importantly, have you been enjoying our chuckle inducing “Bruce Campbell VS” videos? Better be, because with the excitement building for the premier of the all new Ash VS Evil Dead on the Starz network Halloween night, we’re continuing our celebration of the king of B everyday this month!

When you stop to think about it, what does it take to be the king of B movies? Most of us have this narrow perception of Bruce Campbell’s cult status based solely on his involvement in the Evil Dead franchise, with respectable nods to his others works like Xena: Warrior Princess, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., and Bubba Ho-Tep. but these are just 4 roles he’s played out of 100+ credits!

Bruce was fortunate enough to play more than one memorable character that immortalizes him in comics, action figures, video games, art, and fan favorite countdowns till the end of days, but its the entirety of his diverse work that truly earns him the credit as the king of the B movies. For the last 30 years, he’s played a baby snatching demon, been killed by cyborgs on the moon, fought Napoleon as a 19th century superhero, liberated slaves from alien oppression, battled Angus Scrimm into a meat grinder, raced Herbie the Lovebug to a photo finish . . . the list goes on and on! With Bruce returning to the role that first made him a star, we took it upon ourselves to celebrate his amazing career in movies with this edition of Screaming Tribute!

The video below contains at least one clip from nearly every piece of cinematic work Bruce has performed in. You’ll see shots from his humble Super-8 beginnings all the way to the blockbusters he stars in today. We even included clips from the cartoons and video games he’s humorously voiced as well as commercials he hammed up. We only left out his Coen brother appearances where he was barley seen in the backgrounds, voice over work that didn’t have enough (if any) of his appearance, and only a handful of obscure movies and TV shows that most aren’t even aware of.
