Howdy there, Scream Freaks, and Happy belated Fourth! Hope ya had a relaxin’ holiday of explosions and that all your greasy digits are still intact. We certainly had our fair share of celebratin’ ’round our parts but don’t think that slowed down our efforts to get the next episode of Screaming Soup! out to ya. No siree, Bob, that sucker’s in its final stages of completion and should be beamin’ to ya anytime this upcomin’ week, so keep your peepers open for it!
Ya know, as much fun as we had July 4th, we can’t help but be annoyed by our lack of options for holiday themed flicks this time of year. We normally fall back on Independence Day classics like Jaws and the I Know What You Done Did That Summer trilogy, but after followin’ this tradition for so many years, we’re just a little burnt out on those. Still love ’em, but we just wanna shake things up with some different flicks, you know? This pursuit of happiness, however, can be a rabbit hole of confusion and disappointment.
Like anyone else who hits a wall, we go to the web for suggestions. Google “July 4th horror,” and you get a whole slew of folks’ lists for holiday themed horrors familiar and new. We were reminded of some good ones from The Bay to Independence Day, but had to spit fire when we were directed back to flops like Uncle Sam. We’d rather gargle fire ants than watch that buzzkill again. And there’s the newer flicks we didn’t even know existed like The Evil In Us and You Are Not Alone, which we checked out You Are Not Alone and damned that pissin’ time contender in our latest R-Rated Reviews.
The suggestions that really blow our minds, however, are the movies that barely have anythin’ to do with the Fourth. Take The Shining (1980) for example. Horror fans keep bringin’ this flick up ’cause there’s that one ballroom photo taken from July 4th, 1921. Damn, is that all it takes to make these lists? If we made a movie with a passin’ mention of Halloween, Christmas, and Thanksgivin’ and feature a photo taken on Daylight Savin’s Time, Arbor Day, and National Fried Chicken Day, does that automatically get us on every list for those holiday themed horror picks? That’s almost as bad as these holiday themed horrors that ixnay all the festive décor (Christmas, Bloodbeat), breeze past the celebrations, and, Craven forbid, take the story beyond the designated calendar date (Cinco De Mayo, Pinata Survival Island).
And we can’t overlook the lists pluggin’ flicks like Final Destination 3 and Piranha 3D as Fourth of July themed horrors. They make for fun summer horrors with theme parks and beaches, but Final Destination 3‘s final act is a celebration of the town’s establishment, not America’s independence, and Piranha 3D takes place durin’ spring break.

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Damn if this isn’t the longest wait between episodes for our show, but we assure you we’re not neglectin’ things ’cause we’re distracted by the motherload of B movies we’ve discovered through Amazon Prime. No sir, things happen, ya put one fire out at a time and do what you can with the time you got. With that said, we are nearin’ the final stretch of the latest double feature review which is gonna kick off the next phase of the season. So don’t loose yer shit just yet, ’cause that episode’s comin’ sooner than later. Until then . . .
Our ambition to produce a Screaming Soup! comic is still undead and kickin’, and we’re continuin’ to fine tune the page layouts while writin’ the scripts. We’ve got about half of the four issues prepped so far, and they’re lookin’ great. We’ll introduce a bunch of new characters, reveal the origins of ones ya know, and each issue will be themed after a genre of classic B-movie/grindhouse schlock.
We’re also workin’ on some new original Screaming Soup! artwork as well. We still have several pieces leftover from last year that just need colorin’, but the newest one we’re most proud of completin’ as soon as we break the newest episode is a disasterpiece we call “The Screaming Supper.” Inspired by the events of this current season, you’ll see how it perfectly captures the humor of our animated lunacy.
And regardin’ stuff that has nothin’ to do with us (but was supported by us), horror host legend Joe Bob Briggs returns as our favorite movie critic cowboy. Scheduled 9pm EST 7/13/18, Shudder TV will be livestreamin’ a whole slew of movies hosted by Joe Bob in an 24 hour-ish marathon called the Last Drive-In. We can’t tell ya how excited we are to see this crazy comeback that’s ’bout 20 years in the makin’ since fans awaited his return from sudden cancellation on TNT back in 2000. And fangs crossed Shudder will be usin’ a clip from our petition video in a openin’ montage or somethin’ that shows all us fans beggin’ them to bring Joe Bob back. That’s free publicity afterall!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! As you would have guessed it, things have been busy ’round our parts, and we’re hurryin’ as fast as we can to bring you the next excitin’ episode of Screaming Soup! Until then, there’s been plenty goin’ on behind the scenes we can’t wait to share with ya!
For starters, we can officially say we got one of the alternate covers for Full Moon Comix’ Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe #3 due out ’round October! Yeehaw, that achievement feels real good, if we say so ourselves, and we can’t wait for y’all to see it along with the rest our work we did for them! For those of y’all keepin’ track, we got a page of art in the first and second issue, and now we’re one of the cover options for the third issue. So, if Dollman blowin’ up all your favorite Full Moon characters wasn’t enough incentive to buy the series already, now you know you’ll also be collectin’ artwork in these historic issues by us here at Screaming Soup!
All this excitement has definitely lit a fire under our asses to make more headway with our plans for a Screaming Soup! comic we mentioned a while back. It’s currently planned to be a four issue mini-series and will be a prequel that shares a few of our adventures in the Crosslands before settlin’ down at the Howl-Inn Grub and Spirits. We already have the plots figured out and started draftin’ page layouts which we just finished for the first issue. This goes against normal practice somewhat, but we’re gonna complete all four issues before hittin’ up potential publishers we have in mind for printin’ this series. We’re gonna make sure every issue is packed with humor, action, monsters, and content not already found in the show.
And while we’re on the topic of horror comics, be sure to swing by our latest reviews of what we’re readin’ on our Sequential Slime blog. There’s a lot of good horror movie tie-in comics hittin’ the racks right now, and we give ya our two cents on most of them issue by issue. We bitch ’bout the Army of Darkness/KISS crossover rehashin’ Raimi’s third Evil Dead flick for the umpteenth time, praise the latest Big Trouble in Little China mini-series, ride the fence on the brand spankin’ new books on Pumpkinhead and Jeepers Creepers, and fall into abysmal disappointment over Robocop’s latest storyline. Despite great artwork, it always comes down to story determinin’ how well these comics are received or not.
Before we forget, let us mention to ya we think the El Rey Network may have finally watched our Screaming Soup! submission for their animated edition of the People’s Network. We haven’t been officially notified or anythin’ yet, but we saw the YouTube views on that private video jumped a little which is GREAT, ’cause that means someone watched it at least three times. Fangs crossed that means one judge watched it and liked it enough to promote it ’round the office over there or somethin’. And if that weren’t enough excitement to keep us on the edge of our bar stool, we were remindin’ folks in a tweet ’bout our excitement over the return of legendary horror host Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder, and a fan replied with interest in seein’ the two of us in some kind of crossover. We fired back we have a script written for such a horrific ocassion, and Joe Bob directly hit us up wantin’ to read it! Toxic taco toadies, can you imagine the sonic boom thunderin’ ‘cross the lands from our heads explodin’ if somethin’ so surreal were to happen as Joe Bob Briggs doin’ a crossover with our show?!! Breath . . .

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! We’re happy to FINALLY find the time to touch base with ya and shoot the shit on what’s been happenin’ lately.
First off, the next episode is still truckin’ along and will be a doomsday machine double feature with our gang standin’ our ground ‘gainst the Iron Horsemen of Doom so they don’t get their mitts on Billy for all the worst reasons. It’s full of action, laughs, and we even grill some awful remakes.
Speakin’ of remakes, you see the new trailer for the 2018 Halloween? Really mixed feelin’s on our end. We’re excited ‘bout Jamie and Carpenter’s return to the franchise that made them legends, but at the same time, isn’t this story kind of like Halloween: H20 take two? We understand now why this movie was hard to peg as a sequel, remake, or reboot durin’ its news hype. It’s technically a sequel to the original ’78 Halloween, but it’s also rebootin’ the series while kind sorta remakin’ H20, Halloween 2, and ah hell, maybe even Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2. You followin’ this? What’s worst is that title. Halloween?! Did the filmmakers try outdoin’ Stallone’s system for namin’ Rambo movies or somethin’?! It was easy enough to separate the last remake from the original in conversations, because they were simply referred to as Halloween and Rob Zombie’s Halloween. Now, we gotta specify if we’re rantin’ ‘bout Halloween, Rob Zombie’s Halloween, or the 2018 Halloween ‘cause Carpenter ain’t enough clarification since he’s involved with the ’78 version and the newest one. This is getting’ as bad as Leatherface’s movies now with Halloween arguably havin’ as many as five timelines; Timeline 1) Halloween ’78 – Halloween: Resurrection, Timeline 2) Halloween ’78, Halloween: H20 – Halloween: Resurrection, Timeline 3) Halloween ’78 – Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Timeline 4) Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1-2, and now Timeline 5) Halloween ’78 – Halloween 2018. And I’m not even gonna get into the alternate timelines in the Halloween comics over the years!
In other news, we haven’t heard a peep from the El Rey Network yet ‘bout our video submission to be featured in one of their animation showcases. Fangs crossed though, ‘cause we can see on our YouTube channel they haven’t watched the vid yet which means there’s still a chance we could be nationally broadcast right out of Robert Rodriguez’s ranch sometime in the near future. We’ve also been busy hittin’ Full Moon Empire up for more work on their new in-house comic, Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe. Yup, we closed the deal on havin’ artwork in the first issue, and currently meetin’ some fast deadlines for squeezin’ more work into the second issue while gunnin’ to be one of the variant covers for issue three! This historic series is due to hit stands in comic shops ‘cross the country beginnin’ in August, so keep an eye out! As far as our own aspirations for a prequel comic to Screaming Soup!, we decided to expand it to a four issue limited series since most graphic novels are made of four or more comics. More work of course, but this is somethin’ we’re compelled to check off our bucket list.
Lastly, we returned to ConCarolinas recently. Sadly, we dropped the ball for getting’ on any panels and had to sit on the bench and hang our heads at every overlooked detail we felt the “professionals” failed to mention durin’ conversations ‘bout Godzilla and horror icons. Putrid polecats! One good thing that came of it, though, was meetin’ some indie filmmakers who seemed very enthusiastic when we mentioned them and their fellow cinephiles enterin’ our Scream Freak Film Contest. Can’t wait to see what they submit!

First, hope you enjoyed the newest episode of Screaming Soup! as much as we did and checked out Homicidal Homemaker and the Mummy and the Monkey’s YouTube channels. Speakin’ of fellow horror hosts, you may have noticed several of your favorite ones hidden away in the background of this latest episode. We mentioned last week we might make a game out of it or somethin’, and that’s just what we did. Earlier this week, we posted a little challenge across our social media darin’ fans to hunt for these horrific personalities and tell us where they found them to unlock their animated avatars. Thanks to some Super Scream Freaks, they were all unlocked within three days, and are now available for download HERE. Save ’em, post ’em, make collage art out of ’em for your sick pleasure, and even though they’ve all been found, take a look at the chart below and see who you can spot in the episode.
In other news, we’re movin’ forward with our plans for submittin’ an episode of Screaming Soup! to the El Rey Network in the hopes they’ll play it durin’ one of their People’s Network presentations which gives filmmakers the chance to get their work seen by TV audiences ’round the world. To increase our chances of bein’ selected, we went ahead and cut out the movie review portion, leavin’ only an animated adventure that’s a bit hodge podged from past episodes to expose TV audiences to as much of our wild weird west as we can. We still talk about bein’ horror hosts, but just act as though the adventure’s one big build up with us fightin’ monstrous forces just to deliver the review. Should have this submitted over the weekend and will keep y’all posted on its progress for bringin’ us before the home viewin’ masses. Fangs crossed!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Ask and ye shall receive, partners! After a lot of hard but fun work, the episode you’ve been waitin’ for is here and firin’ on all pistons! Now, we’ll be honest, we feel our last episode reviewin’ Tusk could have been a little better. It got a little rushed toward the end to get it published within a month of the previous review and think it could have been funnier. That said, once we missed our monthly deadline for this episode, we didn’t sweat it as much and made the extra effort to make sure this review took full advantage of the humor and kicked the animation up a notch with the camerawork.
We’re also excited about this episode, ’cause if you scan the backgrounds you’ll see we plugged a bunch of our amigos in the horror community in addition to Homicidal Homemaker, Janet Decay, and Grimm Gorri’s special cameos. Yup, like a game of Where’s Waldo, you’ll find the Horror Addicts, our neighbors at Beta Max TV, Sluggo from The Vortexx, Bloodbath & Beyond, and more packed into the walls of the Howl-Inn! We’re thinkin’ we’ll maybe make this into a game so every horrorific entertainer you fans identify unlocks their Screaming Soup! cartoon versions to be enjoyed for whatever sick reasons you want them for.
Aside from all that, you’ll also see our gang’s made it back to the Howl-Inn Grub & Spirits in one piece, but a lot of things have changed thanks to the return of that voodoo hexin’ rooster, Papa Kaka. What he’s up to and how it inspires our review of Jackie Kong’s Blood Diner ’bout two yahoos cookin’ up a sacrificial meal for usherin’ a monstrous goddess back to their world, you’ll just have to watch and find out! On a side note, if you’re a fan of Blood Diner, then you gotta hunt you down a copy of the director’s other monster romp no one ever talks about, The Being, which is ’bout a small town debatin’ its pollution problem while a one-eye burrowin’ puddle mutant tears through people like a bad case of the runs that bite!
And real quick for you Super Scream Freaks, we finally got the bios written up for this season’s newest characters and added them all to our growin’ roster of beasts and ghouls. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Another week and still waitin’ for the next episode. We tell ya, we don’t know how ya manage to be so patient! We’re comin’ much closer to wrappin’ up the animation of episode 43, and fangs crossed we’ll get it out to you sometime next week, and you’ll see why it’s worth the wait. Guest stars, larger than life monsters, non-stop action, and an all out review . . . no wonder it’s takin’ us a little more time to animate!
Regardin’ other projects, things are progressin’ nicely. We think we finally have a magazine publication that will feature an article on our show, we’ve completed some treatments for that mini-series we mentioned wantin’ to do for a Screaming Soup! comic, and got the first drafts for our seventh season written. And if you haven’t heard, our buddy Charlie at Full Moon Empire has decided to publish his own Full Moon comix startin’ with an awesome mini-series called Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe. Pretty epic, right? And since we’re artists with a whole slew of Full Moon artwork from last season, we gotta see if we can twist some arms into squeezin’ our own masterpieces in these upcomin’ issues as pin-ups or back covers. We’ll regret it if we don’t try, you know?
And on a side note, we saw the latest animation showcase on Robert Rodríguezes’ El Rey Network and got more fired up than ever to submit a Screaming Soup! short for possible syndication. If you never heard of it, Robert asks filmmakers to submit their work to El Rey Network through his channel’s website, and the fans pick and choose their favorites to be featured in what they call the People’s Showcase. Winners are flown to his studio ranch in Texas and interviewed for TV spots that introduces their works as part of themed collections rangin’ from horror to suspense and animation. We have some ideas for what we’ll be submittin’, but more on that later.
Just a reminder our special guests on this next episode will be The Homicidal Homemaker and Janet Decay and Grim Gori from The Mummy and the Monkey Show. If you never heard of them, slap yourself upside your clueless face and catch up with their latest YouTube vids posted below. Howdy there, Scream Freaks! This week, we think we finally gotta face facts and not be too hard on ourselves. For the first time in the history of our show, we might not get an episode out by our monthly deadline. How could somethin’ like this happen you ask? Well, most of you regular Scream Freaks who visit the site have kept up with our weekly work drama, but we’ll recap for the newbies.
When we first kicked off this animated rodeo, we were always a year ahead of what we were releasin’ to keep y’all fed with regular content on a monthly basis. While you were watchin’ episode 11, we were already animatin’ episode 21 while preparin’ the script and art for episode 31 at the same time. This routine of multitaskin’ worked liked clockwork for a talkin’ heads show with characters anchored to a table, but we got more ambitious over time and started lettin’ our ghoulish gang run wild through the Crosslands. Obviously, more action means a lot more work animation-wise, and we dedicated many more hours designin’ and animatin’ new characters and places for them to wreak havoc in. Little bit at a time, this epic undertakin’ became more and more complicated and ate away at that year’s worth of cushion we had for any unforeseen circumstances and hiccups that might throw us behind schedule.
While our fanatic series of Bruce Campbell themed vids were the start of our schedule slips, that final fight in our Season Three finale took even more cushion away from us, and this past season with Full Moon Empire ate up the rest. Now, we’re animatin’ our episodes as we go and releasin’ them as soon as they’re done. To keep up the pace we’ve set for ourselves and meet the expectations we’ve given y’all, we’re spendin’ every second we can spare workin’ on Screaming Soup! and only want to produce a quality show that never fails to deliver comic book adventures, slapstick laughs, and insightful reviews of B-movies we think y’all should know about. It’s not like we’re paranoid y’all are gonna get riled up over this and bash us for bein’ late, but we just wanna let you know we’re always workin’ on the show and to bear with us. Never forget we’re folks doin’ this for no money while workin’ full time jobs and raisin’ families. So, the next episode with Homicidal Homemaker and the Mummy and the Monkey may be ridin’ in a little late, but we promise you it’s gonna be worth the wait, Scream Freaks!

Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Sorry we didn’t drop ya a line last week, but things are hustlin’ and bustlin’ over here so fast, our bones are rattlin’ apart from all the excitement! That’s why we only got enough time to throw ya a few updates and get back to producin’ the web’s best kept animated secret!
The next episode is underway and lookin’ excellent. We’ll be seein’ what happened to the Howl-Inn Grub & Spirits since Papa Kaka took over which inspired us to whip up some spiffy new backgrounds for the Crossland’s favorite waterin’ hole that’s really pullin’ it together. What’s even more spooktacular are the guests who will be stoppin’ by, most notably our pal the Homicidal Homemaker and our Beta Max TV neighbors, Janet Decay and Grimm Gorri aka the Mummy and the Monkey! Both were more than happy to see themselves animated, and we’re flattered by their willingness to jump feet first into our cartoony chaos. In the meantime, we’re writin’ the scripts for Screaming Soup! Season 7 right now, still on a wild goose chase for seein’ Death House, and think we got enough of an outline down for writin’ the first drafts of those Screaming Soup! comics we mentioned wantin’ to do in an earlier blog. We’re also makin’ plans for the next big voice recordin’ session for upcomin’ episodes of Screaming Soup! and had a crazy thought that might be somethin’ y’all would wanna see on our Twitch account? Just a wild hair of a thought, so let us know what you think.
On a side note, our buddy the Reaper or Mondoman from Your Final Answer/Mondopiece Theater/whatever really blew-up with his appearances this past week, so give him a look see and discover some other wacky channels after you watch his newest review of Maniac (not the good one with Tom Savini) on his YouTube channel.

Howdy there, and soup’s on, Scream Freaks! We were sweatin’ it there for a second, but we strapped oxygen masks to our faces while injectin’ caffeine straight into our veins with TV on the Radio blastin’ in our ears and cranked out another monthly adventure of your favorite animated horror host who’s still havin’ a hootenanny of a frightful time. This episode explores new corners of the Crosslands, introduces new yahoos causin’ trouble, and picks back up with those semi-mysterious bikers still after Billy.
The movie we’re reviewin’ is the first installment in Kevin Smith’s True North trilogy, and it’s one you won’t be forgettin’ anytime soon. Originally a bizarre joke on Kevin’s smodcast that ran away with itself, this Human Centipede lite torture flick masterfully brings back fears audiences felt watchin’ Misery but takes it a sick step further with senior slasher madmen turnin’ folks into their own emotional support animal. We know we might get some sass from y’all ’bout missin’ the mark with this episode bein’ a perfect setup for showcasin’ a supernatural spook thriller, but we want to talk about this instead, so . . . that’s that. We gotta be unpredictable to keep ya on your toes sometimes, you know?!
We also want to give a shout out to Kevin Smith. While cuttin’ this puppy together, the news broke less than a week ago he suffered a heart attack and nearly died. It was freaky when we found out, ’cause we had just watched the new Comic Book Men episode with Kevin gettin’ emotional watchin’ people act out a chapter of his life in the new bio-pic, Shooting Clerks. Ain’t that pretty surreal he almost expires at the same time folks are watchin’ him experience his past with bittersweet nostalgia? Kevin, if you’re readin’ this, Screaming Soup! is happy to still have such an amazin’ person among us and wish you and your family a speedy recovery. We hope our animated review of your flick brings you some laughs to help heal.
