Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Long time, no see! Sorry for the black out period that may have left you thinkin’ we fell off the face of the graveyard, but we’re back now and ready and rearin’ to jump back in the saddle and get this rodeo movin’ again. For y’all who just gotta know what’s happenin’ on our side of the Crosslands, we’ve had a full plate. While still workin’ on the next excitin’ episode of Screaming Soup! (which will be a doomsday machine double feature by the way), we’ve been stickin’ our gnarled thumbs in other pies recently. That sounded dirtier than intended, didn’t it?
First off, we cut together pieces of past Screaming Soup! episodes to produce an adventure we could submit to the El Rey Network, better known as Robert Rodriquez’s cable channel. See, every so often El Rey features somethin’ called the People’s Network Showcase which broadcasts a handful of submitted works by filmmakers and artists on the rise. The point is to help get these creative folks exposure so fans and talent hungry companies alike can discover them and hopefully boost their career one way or another. Along with horror, suspense, and action showcases, the People’s Network also has an animated category which promotes all kinds of animators from stop-motion and CGI to 2D animation and still pictures . After watchin’ the latest animation showcase and seein’ El Rey’s lookin’ to round up enough content for a third round at their site right now, we couldn’t pass up another opportunity and made the time to enter our show. If it gets picked, we’ll tell ya right now, there’s no review. It’s strictly an animated adventure with your favorite gang from the Howl-Inn Grub & Spirits, ’cause we don’t wanna be disqualified for too long a runnin’ time or for includin’ copyrighted content they may be uncomfortable broadcastin’ despite the fair use laws. This was submitted a short time ago, so fangs crossed we’ll get some national exposure soon!
We also took a whole weekend to invite a bunch of our posse back to record dialogue for future Screaming Soup! episodes which have now been written through Season 7. It was a lot of fun to see some returnin’ faces along with new talent which ran the full gamut of actin’ from stage and film actors to newbies and folks who doubled for Bruce Willis and James Woods back in the day. Most the recordings went really well, but there were some actors who needed a little more work with the characters we’d randomly throw at them to voice, makin’ for some hilarious bloopers we need to share sometime.
Lastly, we’re still gung-ho about the idea of a Screaming Soup! comic book now that we’re armed with the knowledge it’s highly probable it could be picked up by one of these smaller publishers we’ve been noticin’ at the comic shops. We definitely have a three issue mini-series locked down as far as plot and story are concerned, we just need to start fillin’ in the details and puttin’ art to paper at this point. In other comic news, we deserve a big ol’ pat on the back ’cause one of our original drawin’s will be appearin’ in Full Moon Comix’s first publication, Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe! Wooo-doggy, right?! Yessir, thanks to the connections we made with the fine folks over at Full Moon Empire, we luckily pitched the right kind of Full Moon artwork to them and was hired to work with author/screen writer Brockton McKinney in bringin’ it to print. We don’t wanna reveal too much about it, but we will say it’s a parody of those ol’ gag ads we use to see all the time in comics when you could still buy x-ray specs and tanks in the mail.
