Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Yee-haw, this is one special occasion! Not only do we have an all new episode of Screaming Soup! to serve y’all, but it’s a double feature of musical mayhem with two Phantom of the Opera inspired flicks! Even better, Mojo El Diablo from Lost Anarchy Magazine joins the party and helps us judge auditions fer the next screamin’ idol thinkin’ they’re worthy ‘nough to be the new Phantom in Count Ted‘s posse of classic monsters.
We first met Mojo a while back when he reached out to do an article on Screaming Soup! in his stellar counter culture publication Lost Anarchy Magazine, a one-stop read bustin’ with original comics, hard rock articles, and naked centerfolds. After bein’ featured in a couple of articles and checkin’ out his own animated adventures over on his YouTube channel, we just had to repay the exposure he’s provided us and give him a cameo on our show. And what better time fer a crossover than a Phantom of the Opera themed episode, right?!
While we’re fans of the original Phantom tragedy that takes place in the 1880s, we’d much rather watch newer spins on the fugly sewer rat in more modern times, and the two best films that do that are Phantom of the Mall and Phantom of the Paradise. One’s a karate kickin’ emo of a mall rat from the MTV generation — the other’s a rock opera Faust — both star in cult horror flicks featurin’ some of the most unforgettable kills and iconic moments no horror aficionado worth their weight should miss.
